Name:Yamada, Mamoru
Name: Yamada, Mamoru
Age: late 20s, early 30s
Bio: A researcher, a technician, and a registered psychic, Mamoru has always been deeply invested in the science behind monster-related artifacts, and biologies. All for the burning questions he has: Why do humans gain powers, such as psychic abilities? What about cases where some humans can display marvelous feats from a young age, such as the Samasu family? What is the biological line for this, and how have artifacts potentially influenced the course of human development and history?

It's for this reason that he had gotten himself involved in the project to salvage a certain, very large scythe from the Tokyo Bay. The problem is, that when he touched the scythe, the dormant soul of the Barian, Scythe, awoke and possessed Mamoru. Driven by instinct alone, he injured many of his fellow researchers and shambled into town, only to be stopped by Alexandra Grant, who gained Scythe's remaining power in the process.

Mamoru himself was left disoriented in the aftermath, and was ousted from his division as a result of the incident. However, immediately after that, LDS swooped in, and offered him a position with the school itself, as his interests aligned with theirs. Having little other choice, as the situation would have barred him from finding work in the field otherwise, he accepted the invitation.

Mamoru is skilled in the field of research, biology, as well as having technical know-how, being the one to have helped constructed and operate much of the machinery involved in salvaging and digs, as well as a way to detect the signature energy that some of the items may give off. He is interested in pushing and testing those with remarkable abilities, wanting to find out the secret to why they have such abilities at all, and how they interact with their bodies.

Name: Yamada, Mamoru
Age: Late-20s, he isn't telling any exacts about this.
Gender: Male
Occupation: Real Solid Vision(tm) engineer, researcher, and overseer at LDS
Duel Information: He's stopped dueling so much when his deck got forcibly turned into Burning Abyss, but he's still fully capable of doing so; but, also he's built many decks and programmed their usage through an AI.
PB/Description: Deneb from the Fairy Tail anime. Now V from the Devil May Cry 5: Visions of V manga. Just imagine a gaunt looking guy who seems to have not only foregone the concept of sleep over the past year or so, but also has otherwise lacked any sort of physical care other than looking presentable enough for a job.
More specifically, however: He has dark eyes, very dark purple hair that goes over his eye (people may suspect that eye does not exist), pale skin. He has a preference for wearing purple jackets anymore and fingerless gloves, which somehow works for him. He used to wear glasses-- not so much anymore.
Personality: Mamoru was one a guy who got excited about his work. He wanted to know everything he could about Duel Spirits, abilities related to that, how humans would develop these abilities, and what could be done as humanity move towards that. And with being very intelligent, he was able to get into the perfect position to pursue that goal.

Right now? Not so much. After a major incident occurred over a year ago that resulted in him being outsed from his position as head researcher for Duel Spirit Related Artifacts retrieval, he went through a massive depressive spiral before LDS picked him up. Not only did he lose what was essentially his absolute dream job, but his head was actually kinda messed up from the incident, even if he didn't remember it, and was in danger of losing his apartment that he lived in. He had also lost any friends and colleagues that he had, since half of them only were really working with him, and the other half were terrified of him. It's suspected that he also lost a lover during this point, but he isn't keen on going into details of his love life, okay.

Since being picked up though, and being given the chance to implement his knowledge into the Real Solid Vision system, he's perked up. Somewhat. He's still depressed. He still isn't sleeping or eating enough. And he hasn't spoken to anyone he used to know, other than one or two calls to some family.

But he's... improving...?

Currently, he lives alone in a small apartment that he doesn't use as much as he should, opting at times to instead doze off in the observation room where he works on the AI system. He has no pets or regular friends. He currently lives in a very nice house that he's renting out with Akira, his nephew. "Regular friends" are still kinda up in the air, but he's friendly with Kaz at least.
History: Born to a normal Japanese family, the second of two siblings, Mamoru ended up being extraordinary-- not only excelling in school, but also in his chosen fields of study, namely robotics, history, and computers. In fact he was pretty multi-talented in his efforts. But he also fell into dueling, which became a hobby of his.

Of course, when they started moving into more duel disk style of dueling, a problem arose that he found somewhat amazing: his actions in the duels became real. Very real. While at first this was startling, not only to him, but to his opponents, he became fascinated at this power. He started to wonder: "why do I have this power"? When the Arcadia Movement became known and others like him were thrust out into the public consciousness, he continued to wonder that. What made them develop this type of power? Especially to be centered around a card game?

Combining with incidents like monsters becoming visible in Japan, regular apocalyptic scenarios, and the continued momentum of Duel Monsters itself, his interest and passion for this rose. Despite the distrust people had in him after incidents with dueling, he gained respect in other areas as someone who wanted to thoroughly examine the source of these abilities, as well as the impact monsters have had on humanity that no one might've known about. It was likely this focus that made him able to control himself rather well in duels, after the initial stumbling points.

... of course, then things fell down. Over a year ago, he was part of an excavation research team for a strange mechanical scythe that had been found in the Tokyo Bay. And even though he had years of experience about this-- even though he knows that he knew better, something about that scythe called to him. A voice that resonated a little too well with him. So, he touched it.

... and next thing he knew, he was waking up in a hospital, with police officers around him. Saying that he had attacked his fellow researchers and then terrorized the town, before being taken down by unknown means (coughAlexandracough). His deck was also altered to a Burning Abyss deck, with his cards nowhere to be found-- along with, strangely, a blank card, that turned out to be "Number 1XX: White Rider of the Heavens"-- as in the Barian Scythe's partner card.

Shortly after that, he was cast out from his research group. Those he thought of as friends among his fellow researchers cut off ties from him. He had lost the main ability to pursue his dream, and he lost his companions as well. He understandably fell into a very depressed state, and those who'd recognize him would say that he seemed to change entirely, not only emotionally, but physically as well.

However, a stroke of luck occurred for him. Thanks to his expertise in mechanics and computers, LDS was in need of someone to oversee and improve upon the Real Solid Vision system that had been developed. And they didn't seem to care about his former incident, and were willing to work with him on any projects he might be interested in pursuing, so long as it was to LDS's benefit.

With nowhere else to really turn to, and this being an opportunity that essentially fell into his lap, he agreed to it, and picked himself up.

Since then, he threw himself fully into the development of the AI System-- a combination of the basic Dueling AI machine and the Real Solid Vision technology to create accurate duelists for people to train against. Though he himself had avoided dueling since the incident itself, he applied all of his knowledge about deck-building and strategies to create effective duels for the volunteers, even applying his theories about Dark Games to the mix, to see if they would take.

However, this came with issues. The longer he worked with the system, the more problems that seemed to come up. While he massively improved upon the realism of the scenarios, questions began to arise of how stunningly accurate the monster stand-ins he was using were to the real things. It came to head when one of his volunteers actually visited the monster that one of the duels used, and found out that they had experienced in the duel in a dream-like state.

Understandably, this massively worried him. He created and improved the system for general usage, but he was afraid of the idea that something might be influencing the realism of the duels: himself. Instead of facing the issue however, he plunged himself further into working on not only the AI system, but also attempting to decipher what the blank card was. He did finally manage to figure out it's identity, and even managed to piece together what the card's effect was-- enough to use it when his last test went horribly wrong thanks to something unknown managing to hijack the system, possessing the AI representation of his nephew, Akira. Not that the card stayed in a visibly usable form for too much longer after the duel, but it was only a silver lining compared to what happened otherwise.

As a result, he's been on clear probation while he works on repairing the very system that he broke, but thanks to his expertise in the area, his job is likely safe.

He's still going to look into getting a Limiter, however, thanks to the clearer and clearer signs that he himself may have unintentionally influenced the duels.

Abilities: Registered Psychic Duelist. Actually pretty skilled in the area, but his ability is rusty from lack of use-- not that it stops him from being rather devastating when it calls for it, having caused a decent amount of damage to the AI machinery through a monster's attack. Is also pretty intelligent, knowing well about the areas of robotics, artificial intelligent, and monster lore-- including knowledge about Dark Games. He also has a stated very uncanny resemblance to a Barian that had died, Scythe.
